What is Gender?
Gender is the social interpretation of being male or female. It is the social construction of the meanings of the sexes which vary across cultures.
Gender is often used interchangeably with sex but the two concepts are different. Sex is simply the division of organisms into male and female. While sex is biological and related to physiology, chromosomes and hormones, gender is related to culture and pertains to beliefs, values and expectations associated with the sexes.
